Youth arrested for WTC thefts ‘Batman’ clue solves case

Police have arrested a 23-year-old Sudanese national, Khalid Riyal Muheideen, for a series of thefts at the World Trade Center (WTC) in Colombo.

Muheideen, of Eritrean origin, targeted four offices on the 26th floor of the East Tower on 17th of January.

Dressed smartly and wearing a face mask, he entered the building at 1:00 a.m. and used keys left on keyboards to access the offices, stealing laptops and mobile phones worth nearly Rs. 3 million.

A bizarre twist helped crack the case: Muheideen scrawled “BATMAN” on the walls of each office he robbed.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and investigated social media profiles of individuals linked to the WTC.

They found a Facebook account with “BATMAN” images, leading them to the suspect.

Muheideen was arrested near a Colombo casino and confessed to the crimes.

He revealed he knew the WTC layout because his father previously ran a business there.

He admitted selling the stolen goods cheaply to fund his gambling habit.

Fort Police have recovered the stolen items and are continuing their investigation.
