Young Australians divided on AI’s impact on the Job Market

A recent survey by freelance service marketplace Fiverr reveals mixed opinions among young Australians about the future of work in an age of artificial intelligence (AI).

The survey found that 51% of young workers fear job automation by AI in the coming years, reflecting concerns about potential job losses. However, 52% see AI as an opportunity and are taking steps to adapt by acquiring new technical skills. Interestingly, an additional 37% are already actively pursuing these skills to future-proof their careers.

Despite these efforts, confidence in AI-related technical abilities remains low, with only 44% of young Australians feeling equipped to navigate the evolving job landscape.

The findings come amid broader discussions about AI’s transformative potential. Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently predicted significant job losses due to AI advancements, suggesting that future work could become optional, with robots and AI systems providing goods and services.

The survey underscores the need for education and training programs to equip young Australians for a rapidly changing job market.
