According to the Henley Passport Index 2026, Singapore remains the world’s most powerful passport for the second consecutive year, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 192 destinations. However, this is a slight decline from its record 195 destinations in the January 2025 rankings.

Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates share second place, with access to 187 destinations out of 227 globally. The UAE’s rise is considered the most significant improvement, climbing more than 60 positions over the past decade due to sustained diplomatic efforts and visa liberalisation.

Sweden ranks third with access to 186 destinations, while a group of European nations including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland share fourth place with access to 185 destinations.

Other European countries such as Austria, Greece, Malta, and Portugal follow closely in the rankings with access to 184 destinations, while Hungary, Malaysia, Poland, and the United Kingdom share sixth place with 183 destinations.

The United States remains in 10th place, with its passport allowing access to 179 destinations, reflecting a continued decline compared to previous years. The UK has slightly improved, moving up to sixth place with access to 183 destinations.

Overall, the index highlights how passport strength is determined by the number of countries accessible without a prior visa, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
