The 13th ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup kicks off today, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will face India in the opening match at 3:00 p.m. local time in Guwahati.
Eight teams — Sri Lanka, India, Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand — are competing, with matches scheduled across Navi Mumbai, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.
Sri Lanka will host eleven group-stage matches, giving the home team a strong local presence.
Australia enters as the most successful women’s team in history with seven World Cup titles, followed by England with four.
In Women’s ODIs, India dominates Sri Lanka with 31 wins out of 35 matches, while Sri Lanka has three victories and one match ended without a result.
Led by Chamari Athapaththu, the Sri Lanka Women’s team recently departed the island for the tournament and will play seven group-stage matches.
The tournament runs until 2nd of November 2025.
