Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 20-year-old woman accused of a home invasion at a Melbourne apartment earlier this week.
The woman, from south-west Melbourne, allegedly broke into a unit on Berkeley Street in the CBD around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, armed with a knife. She reportedly demanded items before being restrained by a male and female resident, who then called police.
Officers arriving at the scene found the woman unconscious and performed CPR. She was taken to hospital in critical condition but died on Wednesday.
The apartment residents, a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, have been interviewed by police and released pending further inquiries.
Detectives, under the oversight of the Homicide Squad, will investigate both the alleged burglary and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
