
Five suspects, including the main suspect, have been arrested by Ragama Police in connection with an assault on a woman and the forcible cutting of her hair at a shop in the Ragama area.
Police launched an investigation after video footage of the incident went viral on social media, drawing public attention and prompting immediate action.
Officers recorded a statement from the victim and referred her to Ragama Teaching Hospital for a medical examination.
Following further inquiries, the main suspect, a 27-year-old resident of Ragama, was arrested along with four other suspects aged between 20 and 23.
The other suspects have been identified as residents of Rajanganaya, Kadawatha, Ragama, Trincomalee, and Chinawara.
All five suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court on April 18, 2026, while further investigations are continuing.
