A 21-year-old woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly defacing the historic Mirror Wall at Sigiriya Rock Fortress by inscribing her name on it.

Archaeological officers at the UNESCO World Heritage Site apprehended the suspect and handed her over to Sigiriya Police.
The woman, a resident of Avissawella, had been visiting the site with friends when the incident occurred.
Police stated that she is scheduled to appear before the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court today.
In a similar case in 2015, a 23-year-old woman was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court for damaging the Mirror Wall.
