Woman accused of stealing wigs intended for child cancer patients

Police are searching for an unknown woman in connection with the alleged theft of special wigs made for children with cancer in Melbourne.

The theft occurred on Monday at a shop in the inner-city suburb of Richmond. Officers described the incident as “heartless.” Around 3:30 p.m., the woman entered a store on Lennox Street while staff were working in the rear. She reportedly stole four wigs by stuffing them into her jacket and a bag before leaving.

The wigs had been placed in the store’s reception area ahead of delivery to child cancer patients at a local hospital.

The woman is described as Caucasian, with long dark hair with blonde ends, wearing all black clothing, and carrying a handbag. A male accomplice waiting outside the shop is also described as Caucasian, wearing a white or grey beanie, black hoodie, black pants, and white sneakers.

Police have released images of the woman to assist with enquiries and are urging anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online report.
