National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa has claimed that even former State Intelligence Service chief Suresh Sallay is facing a serious threat to his life under the current political environment in the country.

Weerawansa alleged that the Government’s actions had created a climate of fear and insecurity affecting both ordinary citizens and senior state officials.
Referring to the recent deaths of several senior officials, he said there was growing public suspicion surrounding incidents including the death of an Additional Director attached to the Ministry of Finance and other recent cases reported across the country.
He further argued that individuals do not take their own lives merely because allegations have been made against them. According to him, if investigations and legal proceedings are conducted fairly and properly, there should be no circumstances in which deaths occur while inquiries are ongoing.
Weerawansa claimed that when authorities attempt to politically target individuals, those involved are subjected to severe psychological pressure.
He also alleged that even if a person such as Suresh Sallay were granted bail, there would still be serious concerns about their safety under the prevailing political climate in the country.
