Wildfire near Los Angeles grows to 8,000 acres, triggers evacuations

A new wildfire, named the Hughes Fire, erupted north of Los Angeles on Wednesday, spreading rapidly to over 8,000 acres due to strong winds and dry conditions.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for more than 19,000 people, while another 16,000 are under evacuation warnings.

Firefighters, already battling two major wildfires in the Los Angeles area, are now working to contain this fast-moving blaze.

The fire prompted the closure of Interstate 5 in the Grapevine area due to poor visibility from heavy smoke.

Helicopters and aircraft are being used to drop water and fire retardant, while 1,100 firefighters remain on standby across Southern California.

remain hopeful that rain forecasted from Saturday to Monday will provide some relief for firefighting efforts.
