WhatsApp support ends for three iPhone models

WhatsApp, one of the world’s most popular messaging apps with over two billion users, will stop working on three older iPhone models starting today.

The affected devices are the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, all of which will no longer support the app unless updated to at least iOS 15.1.

This change means users of these older models will be unable to send or receive messages through WhatsApp.

A WhatsApp spokesperson explained that the app regularly reviews and retires support for outdated devices with fewer users and lacking security updates or modern functionality.

While these iPhones represent a small fraction of the user base, the update may disappoint those still relying on them.

Apple itself has already discontinued support for the iPhone 5s and 6 series, which were released in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Moving forward, only iPhones capable of running iOS 15.1 or newer will be able to use WhatsApp’s full range of features.
