The Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, Lasantha Wickramasekara, popularly known as ‘Midigama Lasa,’ has died after being critically injured in a shooting incident this morning.
According to reports, the shooting took place while he was seated in his office at the Pradeshiya Sabha, when two unidentified gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at him.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had entered the premises claiming they needed to get a letter signed by the chairman before carrying out the attack.
The injured chairman was rushed to the Matara General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.
