The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers today in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces, as well as in Hambantota and Matale districts.

Showers or thundershowers are expected in other parts of the island after 1:00 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall—around 75 mm—likely in some areas of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Misty conditions are expected early in the morning in parts of the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in the North-Central Province and the Kurunegala and Vavuniya districts.

Showers are also forecast for sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

Winds around the island will be north-easterly or variable, blowing at speeds of 25–35 km/h, while sea conditions are expected to be slight to moderate.

The public is advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
