‘We are not afraid’ – Namal sends strong message to president

Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), delivered a defiant message to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, stating that the SLPP is not afraid of political persecution.

Addressing a May Day rally, Rajapaksa said that despite continuous efforts to discredit and imprison SLPP members, the party remains committed to standing by the people.

He reminded the President that SLPP supporters, known as Pohottuwa, remain loyal to Mahinda Rajapaksa and that the party had played a key role in defeating terrorism and driving national development.

Rajapaksa accused the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) of turning their backs on the working class, alleging that they had used laborers to gain power and then ignored their needs.

He defended the SLPP’s handling of tax policy during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the party avoided burdening citizens with excessive taxes during difficult times.

Rajapaksa also pledged to fight for justice and the release of Mahinda Rajapaksa, voicing deep concern over the direction of the country under the current administration.
