Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has praised Sri Lanka as a destination that deserves global recognition, saying the island has the potential to become the world’s number one holiday destination.

Speaking at a Softlogic Life investor forum in Colombo, Akram said Sri Lanka remains one of his favourite places despite his extensive travels around the world.
The cricket legend, who was introduced as Softlogic Life’s brand ambassador, shared his recent experiences while filming the company’s latest television commercial in scenic locations including Galle and the central highlands.
Akram said Sri Lanka’s stunning landscapes, rivers and coastline are among the most beautiful sights he has witnessed during his global journeys.
He expressed surprise that Sri Lanka has not yet been recognised among the world’s leading tourism destinations, highlighting its unique natural attractions and charm.
Recalling his first visit to Sri Lanka in 1985 as a teenager, Akram said he has returned to the island many times as a player, commentator and tourist, and plans to continue visiting while exploring more destinations, including the East Coast.
