A new study has revealed that eating excessively for just five days can trigger cravings for unhealthy eating patterns in the human brain.
The study involved 29 healthy men aged 20 to 30, who were given ultra-processed foods like chocolate bars, brownies, and chips for five consecutive days.
Researchers studied the impact of high-calorie meals on the brain and found that consuming too much junk food leads to fat deposition in the liver and disrupts the body’s insulin function.
Additionally, the study discovered that overeating has a significant negative effect on brain function.
Food expert Gemma O’Hanlon highlighted that 42 percent of Australians’ diets now consist of ultra-processed foods. She further emphasized that consuming these foods regularly can lead to addiction.
