Sri Lankan authorities have issued a stark warning as water levels in the Kelani River continue to rise rapidly, raising fears of a flood worse than the catastrophic 2016 deluge.

Officials caution that Colombo could experience severe inundation by tomorrow night (29 Nov) or in the immediate hours ahead if conditions persist.

Residents are urged to take immediate precautions, including removing vehicles from low-lying areas and securing essential documents such as educational certificates.

Emergency teams are on high alert. The public is advised to follow official alerts and act swiftly to safeguard lives and property.
