The United National Party (UNP) stated that its leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was taken to Singapore for medical treatment due to what it described as a “witch-hunt” by the Criminal Investigation Department against local doctors who had treated him.
Speaking at a media briefing, UNP Chairman Wajira Abeywardana said the country is currently facing a serious situation as a result of the government coming to power by spreading falsehoods. He claimed that the present administration had misled the public more than any other political party.
Abeywardana also stressed the importance of political parties refraining from spreading false information for political advantage in the future.
