Western Australia has changed its FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) bin rules, removing several items that residents were previously allowed to dispose of in green bins.

Under the updated rules, items including pet waste, tea bags, paper towels and pizza boxes are now banned from FOGO bins.
Additionally, residents have also been advised to use only certified compos-table bin liners.
The changes were quietly updated by the WA Waste Authority and are being shared by local councils.
Therefore, an authorities say the new rules are designed to reduce contamination and ensure organic waste can be properly processed into compost.
Waste officials warn that incorrect items can affect recycling systems and prevent collected material from being reused effectively.
