‘Vulnerable’ teen found safe after alleged social media luring by man

A teenager reported missing in Perth has been found after allegedly being lured by a man he met on social media, WA Police said.

The “vulnerable” boy was contacted online by a 30-year-old man who reportedly sent a rideshare car to pick him up earlier this month.

After the teen’s family alerted authorities, police launched a major investigation and coordinated with international agencies to track down the suspect.

The boy and the man were eventually located not far from the teen’s home in Cloverdale, Perth.

The suspect has been charged with sexually assaulting the boy and is currently in custody, scheduled to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on July 31.

WA Police are urging parents to remain vigilant, warning that online child exploitation can occur rapidly, often without adult knowledge.

Support is available through Kids Helpline at 1800 55 1800 and the national 1800RESPECT service for victims of sexual assault and family violence.
