
A total of 76 Indonesian nationals were arrested yesterday for illegally residing in Sri Lanka in violation of visa regulations, following a raid at a tourist hotel in the Porutota area of Negombo.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Department of Immigration and Emigration based on intelligence received by the department.
Investigations revealed that the individuals had entered the country on tourist and business visas. Of the total, 36 had overstayed their visas, while 40 others were found to have violated visa conditions and were residing unlawfully.
The group consists of individuals aged between 25 and 35, including six women.
