The Victorian Government has issued a warning for residents to stay alert for online scams leading up to Valentine’s Day, particularly targeting those using dating apps.
Last year alone, Victorians lost $5.5 million to these scams, highlighting the growing threat.
According to NAB data, Valentine’s-related scams rank among the top five scams affecting consumers.
Nationwide, around 3,200 love scams were reported in the past year, with total losses estimated at $24 million.
Authorities also warn that middle-aged individuals are particularly vulnerable to these fraudulent schemes.
