The Victorian government has introduced a free RSV vaccination program for newborns to protect against respiratory complications.
The program will run from April until the end of September this year.
Health officials report that Australian children under the age of two are being hospitalized more frequently due to the effects of the virus.
RSV poses a significant risk to babies, increasing the chances of respiratory issues.
Under this program, infants who are currently eight months old or younger will also be eligible to receive the vaccine.
