Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton has stepped down from his role, effective immediately.
Premier Jacinta Allan confirmed the decision in a statement issued by the state government.
Rick Nugent, who currently serves as Victoria’s Emergency Management Commissioner, has been appointed as the acting Chief Commissioner.
No official reason has been provided for Patton’s sudden departure.
Nugent brings extensive experience in law enforcement and emergency response to his new role.
