Victoria bushfire: residents urged to evacuate as blaze spreads

Firefighters are warning residents in Victoria’s central west to prepare for possible evacuation as a rapidly spreading fire continues to burn out of control.

The blaze, which began on Thursday at the Old Tom Racecourse in Hepburn Park, about 4km east of Daylesford, is believed to have been deliberately lit and has since developed into a bushfire.

As of 5 p.m. yesterday, emergency warnings were extended to nearby areas including Sailors Hill, Sailors Falls, and Musk Vale. The fire has already scorched approximately 30 hectares, and authorities confirm it remains uncontained.

More than 100 personnel, including ground crews and firefighting aircraft, have been deployed to battle the blaze. The fire is currently moving southeast from the Blackjack Raceway towards Sailors Hill, raising serious concerns for communities in its path.
