Visiting U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss enhancing maritime and economic cooperation between the United States and Sri Lanka.
The meeting highlighted deepening maritime collaboration, including last week’s U.S. transfer of a vessel to Sri Lanka to strengthen maritime security, according to U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung.
Both officials emphasized that the partnership aims to support shared strategic interests while fully respecting Sri Lanka’s sovereignty.
Economic discussions focused on trade, investment, and promoting near-term stability as Sri Lanka continues its recovery efforts.
The U.S. delegation also expressed condolences for the lives lost during Cyclone Ditwah and reaffirmed its commitment to a strong bilateral partnership.
Ambassador Chung noted, “Despite the tragedy, we look forward to a strong U.S.-Sri Lanka partnership and its importance to a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
