US to impose tariffs on Australia, SL & Others

President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs on countries exporting goods to the United States, including Australia and Sri Lanka.

As part of this decision, a 44% tariff will be imposed on Sri Lankan goods, while Australian exports to the U.S. will face a 10% tariff.

Trump made this announcement during his Liberation Day speech, stating that the U.S. imported $3 billion worth of beef from Australia last year, while Australia has completely banned American beef imports since 2003 due to biosecurity laws.

The U.S. President emphasized that since Australia protects its farmers by restricting beef imports, the U.S. will implement a similar policy.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed strong concerns over this decision, calling it an unfriendly move and stating that it is not the action of a true ally.
