US tax move demands govt response: Ranil

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe warned that the US Reciprocal taxes have triggered a fresh economic crisis for Sri Lanka.

He emphasized that Sri Lanka must find ways to start settling its debts by 2028 under the current debt restructuring plan.

Wickremesinghe pointed out that even if the Reciprocal tax is reduced to 25%, Sri Lankan exports will still decline.

He stressed that the government must treat the situation as an emergency and present a concrete plan to address the crisis.

According to Wickremesinghe, urgent measures are needed to stabilize the economy and manage external financial pressures.
