The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Travel Health Notice for Sri Lanka, advising travelers to “practice enhanced precautions” due to a surge in cases of the mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus.
The alert was issued earlier this month as the country continues its recovery from the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Chikungunya outbreaks have been reported in several regions worldwide, including parts of Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
