Customers who purchased Little One’s Ultra Dry Nappy Pants – Walker Size 5 (42 pack) from Woolworths in Australia have been issued a warning after the Khapra beetle, a dangerous pest, was detected inside the product.
The Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued the warning after larvae of the beetle, which is imported from overseas, were first discovered in New South Wales on September 7. DAFF confirmed that no other nappy sizes or brands are affected at this time.
The Khapra beetle, which is not native to Australia, poses a threat to the country’s grain and plant industries as it feeds on stored grains. While contact with human skin may cause mild irritation or allergic reactions, authorities emphasized that it does not pose a serious risk to human health.
DAFF reported that Woolworths has removed the affected nappy pants from shelves nationwide and ensured that future imports are tested and treated to prevent contamination. Customers have been advised not to use or dispose of the product or its packaging and, if possible, to seal them in a bag to prevent pest spread.
A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed that products should not be returned to stores. “The product is supplied through Ontex, which manufactures it overseas and imports it to Australia. Once we were notified, we acted swiftly under DAFF directions to quarantine the items and begin an investigation,” the spokesperson said.
