The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee has decided to lift all bans and disciplinary actions previously imposed on party members who joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
A special panel chaired by former Attorney General and President’s Counsel Tilak Marapana has also been appointed to review potential legal implications of this decision.
UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said the move clears obstacles that had prevented former members from rejoining and cooperating with the party.
The Working Committee, chaired by UNP Leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, met at Sirikotha, the party headquarters in Pitakotte.
During the meeting, members unanimously passed a proposal extending gratitude to all parties that have supported the UNP in joint political efforts since Wickremesinghe’s recent arrest.
