The United National Party (UNP) yesterday (22nd) lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over a claim made by YouTuber Sudaththa Thilaksiri regarding the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

On 21st of August , Thilaksiri stated on his YouTube channel that Wickremesinghe would be arrested today and remanded for 14 days.
A team of UNP attorneys submitted the complaint to the CID, urging an investigation into how such a prediction was made prior to any official action.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa questioned the timing of the statement, suggesting that a YouTuber predicting an arrest beforehand could not be a mere coincidence.
“If true, it’s a sad day when something as sacred as law and order is reduced to cheap theatrics,” Premadasa wrote on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
