
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from 23rd to 26th of June , 2025 — marking the fourth such visit by a UN Human Rights Chief to the country.
During his stay, Türk is expected to meet with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, Members of Parliament, and other key government officials.
He will also hold discussions with the Chief Justice, religious leaders, civil society representatives, UN agencies, and members of the diplomatic community.
The visit will focus on a broad range of human rights issues, including accountability, justice for victims of past violations, reconciliation, and the socio-economic impact of Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic challenges.
Türk is also scheduled to travel outside the capital, visiting Trincomalee in the East, Jaffna in the North, and Kandy in the Central Province.
The High Commissioner will conclude his mission with a press conference in Colombo on Thursday, 26th of June .
