The UK has imposed sanctions on four individuals, including former Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva, for their alleged involvement in human rights violations during Sri Lanka’s civil war.
The sanctioned individuals include former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, former Army Commander General Jagath Jayasuriya, and Vinayagamoorthy Muralidhar, also known as Karuna Amman, who was once a leader of the LTTE before joining a paramilitary group.
As a result of these sanctions, the individuals are banned from traveling to the UK and are prohibited from holding or depositing assets there.
According to an official statement on the UK government website, the sanctions were imposed due to alleged human rights violations, including unlawful killings, torture, and sexual violence during the Sri Lankan civil war.
