UAE relief team concludes humanitarian mission, departs Sri Lanka

The UAE Relief Team has departed the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka after successfully concluding its humanitarian mission.

The deployment was part of an urgent response initiated by the United Arab Emirates under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to assist communities affected by Cyclone Detua and the resulting landslides.

During the mission, UAE relief teams delivered 116 metric tons of urgent humanitarian aid, including food supplies, tents, and relief kits, to support families impacted by the disaster.

In addition, the UAE Search and Rescue Team carried out specialized field operations, recovering the bodies of 20 missing persons and providing medical treatment to eight individuals with minor injuries, in close coordination with relevant local authorities.

The Head of the UAE Relief Team reaffirmed the UAE’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka and other nations affected by natural disasters, emphasizing that humanitarian assistance remains a core principle of the UAE’s values and its dedication to standing with affected communities until full recovery is achieved, the UAE Embassy said.
