The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has issued a warning to the public about a rise in fake social media accounts impersonating its officials based in Colombo.
The Embassy urged social media users to verify the authenticity of any profiles claiming to represent the U.S. Embassy or its personnel and to avoid engaging with or trusting information from such impersonator accounts.
Additionally, the Embassy clarified that its consular officials do not contact individuals through social media platforms or direct messages for matters related to U.S. visa services.
