Two schoolboys have been remanded until 13th of June for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to manipulate images of four female classmates and distributing them through school WhatsApp groups.
Horana Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya issued the remand order on Sunday and directed that the suspects be held at a juvenile detention facility under the supervision of prison authorities.
The incident came to light when the father of one of the affected girls discovered the altered images and lodged a complaint with the police. The suspects were subsequently arrested and produced before the court.
The accused students are currently preparing for the upcoming G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.
