The Criminal Court in the Maldives has remanded two Sri Lankan nationals in custody for 15 days in connection with an alleged violent incident at Velana International Airport (VIA) on January 10.

The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m., and at the time, police took the two individuals into custody for questioning before releasing them on a caution.

Both individuals, aged 46 and 43, were re-arrested last Sunday under a court order. On Monday, the Criminal Court formally remanded them for 15 days.

Lawyers representing the two men highlighted that they are employed in respectable positions and stated that while a fight did occur at the airport, it was not carried out with criminal intent.
