Trump urges Putin to end ‘Ridiculous War’ or face new sanctions

Donald Trump has warned he will impose high tariffs and sanctions on Russia if Vladimir Putin does not end the war in Ukraine.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump claimed he was doing Russia a “very big favor” by pushing for a settlement to the war.

Trump previously stated he could negotiate an end to the conflict in a single day if given the chance.

Putin insists on Ukraine accepting Russian territorial gains, while refusing to allow Ukraine to join NATO.

President Zelensky has expressed willingness to cede some occupied land temporarily but refuses to compromise Ukraine’s sovereignty.

On Tuesday, Trump announced plans to speak with Putin “very soon” and hinted at more sanctions if peace talks fail.

In his post, Trump threatened high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on Russian exports if no deal is reached.

Trump claimed the war “never would have started” under his presidency and urged both sides to “make a deal.”

Russia’s deputy UN ambassador suggested the Kremlin needs more clarity on Trump’s terms before considering peace.Zelensky told the World Economic Forum that any peacekeeping mission in Ukraine would require U.S. troops to ensure deterrence.

Ukrainian leaders believe Putin only responds to strength and are waiting for concrete actions rather than rhetoric.

Russian imports to the U.S. have already plummeted since 2022, with key exports like fertilizers and platinum being heavily restricted.

In Moscow, some officials and pro-Kremlin media have hinted at accepting less than a total victory in Ukraine.

Trump also praised the Russian people, referencing their WWII sacrifices, though his remarks contained factual errors.

After 11 years of conflict, Ukrainians remain skeptical of peace talks and are wary of poor past agreements with Russia.
