U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Americans to be patient following a contraction in the first-quarter economy, asserting that his tariff policies would ultimately lead to economic growth.
The decline was attributed to a surge in imports, as businesses rushed to stock up before anticipated cost increases—highlighting the disruptive impact of Trump’s unpredictable tariff strategy.
Trump placed the blame on former President Joe Biden, saying, “This is Biden’s Stock Market, not Trump’s,” and claimed that poor economic indicators were inherited.
He dismissed any link between the tariffs and the downturn, saying, “This will take a while, has NOTHING TO DO WITH TARIFFS,” and assured the public that a historic boom would follow, urging them to “BE PATIENT!!!”
