U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he would consider imposing additional sanctions on Russia if President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate an end to the Ukraine war.
While offering no specifics on new sanctions, Trump acknowledged the United States has already implemented extensive measures against Russia since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
He emphasized the need for greater European Union involvement in supporting Ukraine and hinted at reviewing U.S. weapons aid to the country.
Trump revealed plans to engage in discussions with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.
In a call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump urged China to leverage its influence to help resolve the Ukraine conflict but expressed disappointment at China’s limited efforts.
“I told him, ‘You ought to get it settled,’” Trump said, highlighting the importance of global cooperation in ending the war.
