Donald Trump said on Monday that the war against Iran would end “very soon,” while also predicting that global oil prices would decline.
Trump made the remarks during a press conference held at his golf club near Miami.
Addressing reporters, the U.S. president said that significant progress had been made toward achieving the military objectives of the campaign. “We’re achieving major strides toward completing our military objective,” Trump said, adding that some may even consider the mission nearly complete.
He claimed that Iranian military forces had been severely weakened during the conflict. According to Trump, most of Iran’s naval fleet had been destroyed, with nearly 50 ships sunk. He said he had just been informed that a total of 51 vessels had been destroyed.
Trump further stated that Iran had lost much of its military capability, claiming the country no longer had an effective navy, air force, or anti-aircraft defence systems. He also alleged that the country’s leadership structure had been eliminated during the campaign.
Describing the operation as highly successful, Trump said the outcome represented a military success “the likes of which have never been seen.”
