Trump offers federal workers 8 months’ pay to resign

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced a buyout program offering federal workers eight months’ pay to resign.

An email sent to millions of employees on Tuesday gave them until February 6 to join the “deferred resignation program.”

The administration expects about 10% of federal employees—roughly 200,000—to accept the offer, potentially saving the government up to $100 billion.

Certain workers, including postal employees, military personnel, and national security officials, were excluded from the offer.

The Office of Personnel Management warned that further downsizing could impact those who choose to stay.

The move aligns with Trump’s long-standing pledge to shrink the federal government and reduce spending.
