Trump: no more funding for Australian universities

Funding cuts by US President Donald Trump’s administration have severely impacted the research programs of seven major Australian universities.

The affected institutions include the Australian National University, University of Technology Sydney, University of NSW, Monash University, Macquarie University, Darwin University, and the University of Western Australia.

Reports indicate that approximately $600 million in financial support from the US to these universities has been suspended.

As a result, biological and clinical research has suffered the most.

The US has been the largest foreign donor to Australian universities, providing $386 million in funding last year alone.

Despite these cuts, Education Minister Jason Clare has assured that the standards of Australian universities will not be allowed to decline.
