The Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, said the Treasury has so far disbursed more than Rs. 13 billion to provide relief to people affected by the recent disaster situation.
Issuing a special statement, he said the objective is to further strengthen mechanisms to share information as early as possible regarding the funds being received and disbursed.
He explained that all financial assistance received by the country is collected through the Treasury, and disbursements are made via the established institutional framework, with the involvement of Divisional Secretariats.
Dr. Suriyapperuma noted that total disbursements have already exceeded Rs. 13 billion, based on approvals granted through supplementary budgets proposed by the President and subsequently approved by Parliament.
He added that arrangements are being made to ensure information is shared promptly, data is gathered efficiently, and both financial and material donations received by Sri Lanka are delivered to affected communities and individuals without delay.
