The Anuradhapura District Agricultural Committee has decided to conduct a census to assess the toque monkey population, with state officials leading the effort in collaboration with civil society.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya.
To ensure public awareness, the committee also agreed to promote the initiative in advance through social media.
The census will be carried out within a short period by Grama Niladharis and other state officials, supported by civil society organizations.
The collected data on the toque monkey population and their key habitats in the district will be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation for further analysis and action.
