Thousands of devotees from Sri Lanka and several other countries flocked to Bodh Gaya early this morning to mark the 2569th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha by offering prayers at the sacred Mahabodhi Temple.
The revered site, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree, saw long queues of pilgrims with flowers in hand, chanting prayers in solemn devotion, according to Indian media reports.
This year’s Buddha Jayanti celebrations, scheduled from 11th to 13th of May have drawn international participation from countries including Thailand, Japan, Myanmar, Bhutan, and India.
To ensure safety and smooth conduct of the event, authorities have implemented tight security, including CCTV surveillance and a heightened police presence throughout the temple town.
The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been beautifully decorated with lights and flowers for the occasion, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere.
Pilgrims were seen making traditional offerings and meditating in silence as part of their religious observance.
