Thailand pledges to rescue SL trafficking victims in Myanmar

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently met with Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC), to discuss enhancing security cooperation.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration in national defense, countering human trafficking, and addressing transboundary security issues impacting both nations and the region.

Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the need for enhanced defense cooperation, knowledge-sharing on national security policies, and capacity-building initiatives to improve Sri Lanka’s security framework.

Secretary-General Chatchai Bangchuad expressed Thailand’s support for Sri Lanka in addressing critical security concerns, particularly in rescue operations for human trafficking victims in Myanmar’s cybercrime centers.

The National Security Council of Thailand, led by the Prime Minister’s office, plays a key role in coordinating the country’s security and defense policies, a role which was acknowledged and praised by the Sri Lankan ambassador.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to regional security, with both sides reaffirming their dedication to addressing shared challenges and promoting peace and prosperity in the region.
