A Thai female tourist was taken into custody yesterday (14th) after walking half-naked through the Arugam Bay tourist area, police said.

The incident occurred around 12:30 PM, when the woman was seen moving from one hotel to another wearing only partial clothing.

Female officers from the Women and Children’s Bureau of the Pottuvil Police Station located and detained her.

According to a senior police officer, the woman is a Thai national who arrived in Sri Lanka with a U.S. citizen and had booked accommodation in a tourist hotel in Arugam Bay from 11th to 20th of July .

She is scheduled to be produced before the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court today (15), under Section 4 of Ordinance No. 1841, which deals with disorderly or indecent conduct in public.

The Pottuvil Police have also notified the Thai Embassy regarding the incident.
