Technical issue forces Turkish Airlines flight to return to Colombo

Turkish Airlines flight TK 733, operating from Colombo to Istanbul, landed safely at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 12:28 a.m. following a reported technical issue. Airport authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew were safe.

The passenger aircraft, an Airbus A330, reported a landing gear malfunction shortly after departing BIA on Tuesday night, prompting the flight crew to initiate standard emergency procedures.

As a precaution, the aircraft circled in the air to burn fuel before returning to BIA for an emergency landing. Fire and medical emergency teams were placed on standby at the airport, while the flight crew remained in constant communication with air traffic control throughout the operation.

Airport officials said there was no disruption to other flights at Bandaranaike International Airport despite the emergency situation. They added that further inspections and safety checks were carried out following the aircraft’s safe landing.
